Citizens seek 22,809 corrections in Pune civic body electoral rolls

The state election commission directed that the deadline to submit suggestions be extended to December 3.

Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram had admitted that there were three lakh double entries in the electoral rolls, but the civic body has no power to delete them and would only ensure that voter casts their vote only once.

An appeal was made to eligible citizens to verify their names in the electoral rolls and submit an application if names needed to be corrected.

There will be a hearing on the applications, following which a final ward wise and polling booth wise electoral rolls will be published in the next few days.

“The civic body will consider all the applications seeking changes in the electoral rolls. After verification, relevant changes will be made directly and for few applications, a hearing will be conducted,” said Prasad Katkar, incharge of civic election department.
