With the state government extending deadline for filing suggestions and objections on draft Development Plan (DP) for the old part of city by two months, citizens group are preparing to take the DP to public and encourage their participation in finalising it.
Civic activists and the citizens groups have been raising objections over the non-cooperation of the civic administration in sharing the details of the draft DP with public. There was also a demand for making available the draft DP in Marathi language so that it could reach out to more and more people.
After allegations that the draft DP was framed in favour of builders and real estate developers with land reserved for public amenities being diverted for residential purposes, activists had urged Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to extend the deadline for filing suggestions and objections on draft DP from 30 days to 60 days.
Taking into account the interest of city and seek public participation, the state government has conveyed that there is no objection in considering the suggestions and objections on draft DP filed up to 60 days, said municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak. He said that people should now file their suggestion and objections by June 26.
It would be up to the state-appointed planning committee to take a call on the suggestion and objections, said Pathak.
Meanwhile, the citizens groups have started online campaigns and distributing printed contents of draft DP for the understanding of the public.
