September for Pune has mostly been dry, with the district reporting a large deficit of 54 per cent. The district, which was supposed to receive 73.8 mm of rain, has so far got 33.9 mm. Earlier in the month, IMD had predicted excess rains for the month, marked with extreme weather events like heavy spells. Since the start of the June-September Monsoon, Pune district has received 838.6 mm – an 8 per cent deficit from the 907 mm it is supposed to receive. June has been the only month when rainfall has been sufficient, with July and August both ending in deficits. However due to heavy rains, dams supplying water to Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad are full, with discharges conducted at regular intervals.

On Friday and Saturday, parts of Pune reported moderate spells of rain, especially in the afternoon. Chinchwad had reported the highest of 28 mm, while Shivajinagar received about 6.8 mm. Lavale had received 12 mm – the second highest in the district.

IMD on Saturday, indicated that the monsoon is likely to start withdrawing from North West India from the week ending September 13. The monsoon had arrived early, with May receiving excess rain this year. Monsoon’s withdrawal is expected to come with another spell of good rain in parts of the country. “The country as a whole, the weekly cumulative All India Rainfall (ending on 3rd September) in % departure from its long period average (LPA) is +0%.

All India Seasonal cumulative rainfall % departure during this year’s Monsoon Season Rainfall (01st June to 03rd September 2025) is 08%,”’the IMD said.
