Chief Minister Devendra FadnavisChairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women Rupali Chakankar on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to launch an investigation into the delay by the Pune rural police in filing a chargesheet in the complaint filed by the elder daughter-in-law of the Hagawane family
”In this domestic violence case, it was important to give all support to the complainant and treat her complaint sensitively. I request you to conduct an investigation into the delay in filing the chargesheet (by Pune rural police),” Chakankar wrote in the letter directed to CM Fadnavis.
In the letter, Chakankar said, ”After the unfortunate death of Vaishnavi, the atrocities committed by Hagawane family on her came to light. The brother and mother of the elder daughter-in-law…had complained to the commission about the harassment she was facing from the Hagawanes. The complaint was received on November 6, 2024. The commission had, on November 7, directed the Paud police to act in the matter. As per directives of the commission, the Paud police had filed an complaint in the matter.”
Chakankar said after this, the commission had asked the Paud police to submit a report regarding the delay in filing the FIR. ”Today, that is on May 28, 2025, the commission received a report from the Superintendent of Police, Pune rural. After reviewing the report, it has come to light that the chargesheet, which should have been filed within 60 days before the court, has not been filed yet. This lapse is serious,” she said.
Meanwhile, a local court on Tuesday extended the police custody of five members of the Hagawane family arrested for the death of Vaishnavi Hagawane.
