Pune fringes of Ambegaon and Chakan get their first ICSE and CBSE schools respectively, with Podar Education Trust’s Podar International School. Beginning from next month, the Ambegaon School will follow Indian School Certification Examination (ICSE) pattern, the latter will follow Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus.

Starting from Podar Jumbo Kids, which is the pre-school section of the Trust, the newly set up schools will be up to class V. “We shall ensure that pre-school coaching will be restricted only to the child’s emotional, social and life skills development and not the writing skills,” said Swati Popat,Director,Podar Jumbo Kids. She added that while many parents insist that their child be taught to write, children must not be forced to do so before they are grown-up enough to hold a pencil.

Both the schools will have Rs 30,000 fees per year, which is payable in installments. Anagha Gholap, who is M.Sc,D.Ed will be the principal at Abegaon, while Simran Kaur equipped with double MA and D.Ed will be the headmistress at Chakan. The two schools will have an intake capacity of 320 students each. “Initially there would be only one division per class and not more than 40 students will be admitted from class I,while 35 students in pre-school,” said DSJ Franklin, chief administrative officer of Podar International School.

“These schools will follow no donation,no deposit principle, use interactive white board that has an internal memory and have a student exchange programme where select students get a chance to visit NASA,” said Vijaya Wad,senior education consultant with Podar Education Trust.
