The Union government has made it clear it would bear the estimated cost of Rs 1.65 crore in organising the function to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the first anniversary of the launch of smart city mission at Balewadi on June 25.
In a communication to the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (PSCDCL), the Union Urban Development Ministry has informed that the expenditure to be incurred for the launch of projects under AMRUT and Smart City Mission on June 25 should be under the state funds for administrative and office expenses under the Smart City Mission, a part of which comes from the Centre.
It also conveyed in-principle approval of the competent authority for the expenses to be incurred in connection with the event management and publicity for the function.
“PSCDCL has been directed to incur the expenditure for the event to be organised on June 25. It would be paid from the state funds for administrative and office expenses under the Smart City Mission,” said Prerna Deshbhratar, chief executive officer of PSCDCL.
She said the estimated expenditure for event management was Rs 90 lakh and Rs 75 lakh for publicity of the event. “The Pune Municipal Corporation or PSCDCL would not be incurring the expenditure of the event,” Deshbhratar said.
BJP leader in PMC Ganesh Bidkar said the local civic body would not have to spend anything for the function.
