The Wanowrie police have booked a 32-year-old cashier working with the Ruby Hall Clinic for allegedly usurping Rs 11.66 lakh from the cash counter.
The cashier identified by police as Amar Hiralal Bohat, a resident of Mangalwar Peth, is currently on the run.
According to police sub-inspector D N Dhole, Bohat worked at the Wanowrie branch of Ruby Hall Clinic for 2.5
years and embezzled a total of Rs 11.66 lakh.
Devendra Naik, deputy general manager (finance), has registered a complaint against Bohat under sections 406 and 408 of the Indian Penal Code.
“As a cashier, he had access to the cash paid by the customers. On April 8, 2015, it was noticed that he had not submitted Rs 3.96 lakh to the higher authorities. However, he promised to pay the money soon and the administration did not approach the police. But he failed to pay the money and an additional Rs 7.70 lakh was found missing on August 12. The administration then approached the police,” said Dhole.
Bohat went missing on August 12 and the cops are trying to track him down.
“He cannot be contacted. We visited his house in Mangalwar Peth but could not find him there. Now, we have sent a team to his native place in Shrirampur taluka of Ahmednagar district,” said Dhole.
Senior officials with the clinic said that an internal inquiry committee has been set up to investigate the matter.
“He has been removed from employment,” he added.
