An event to promote artistic innovation and the cultural synthesis of Carnatic music was held on April 21 from 3pm to 7pm at the Centre for Police Research Auditorium.
The endeavour was initiated by Sundaram Subramanian, president of Poona Sangeetha Sabha, and his team. The event was held to give music teachers and students a platform to showcase their skills and learn from the veterans.
Pramod Marathe and Parinita Marathe from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune were the chief guests who inaugurated the event with their presence, which was soon followed by classical performances.
The ceremony commenced with a powerful group performance of Shri Ganapatini and Jagadanadakaraka. Music enthusiasts familiar with these ragas were encouraged to sing along.
As a tribute to renowned Carnatic composer Thyagaraja Swamy, a teacher-led student rendition of Thyagaraja compositions followed the group performances. Eight groups of students took to the stage, each led by their respective gurus , with supporting instrumentalists.
“Guru-Shishya Sammelanam is a teacher-led student rendition initiative, which we plan to organise once every quarter in the form of lecture and demonstration workshops and guided listening sessions to understand the basics of Carnatic music,” said Sundaram Subramanian.
“Anyone can contribute to the Sabha by becoming a member, offering cash or kind, or directly bearing operational expenditures such as programme logistics, meals, travel, artiste accommodations, gifts, keepsakes, and more,” Subramanian added.
