95,523 students confirmed their admissions to engineering courses in Maharashtra after the first three Central Admission Process (CAP) rounds based on the Common Entrance Test (CET) for academic year 2025-26. Over 1.75 lakh seats are up for grabs in this year’s admission process.

According to data shared by the CET cell, traditional branches like civil, electrical and mechanical engineering saw around 50 per cent of their seats filled in the three rounds. Even courses like computer engineering, computer science and engineering, and information technology saw just 53.9, 52.5, and 52.3 per cent of their seats confirmed respectively. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering stood out as an exception to the trend with 64.1 percent admissions.

On the other hand, a higher admission percentage was observed in courses related to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science. These courses include Artificial Intelligence and Data Science with 59.6 per cent admissions, Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) with 67 per cent admissions, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with 57.4 per cent admissions, and Computer Science and Engineering(Data Science) with 60.5 per cent admissions.

Professor Sunil Bhirud, vice-chancellor of College of Engineering Pune (COEP) Tech University, said that branches like computer engineering and computer science and engineering would catch up in the upcoming admission round.

“Students put their admission on hold for these top branches. For example, a student who gets computer science in PICT might wait for the next round to get computer science in COEP, even though there is hardly any difference in both cutoffs. But by the fourth round these computer-related branches get filled. In other branches like mechanical and civil there is a bit of an issue. However the situation is improving day-by-day,” he told The Indian Express in relation to state-wide admissions.
