Paving way for the implementation of the extension of Pune Metro, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday gave its consent to seek loan to ti meet expenditures for Pune Metro Lines 2 and 4, Thane Ring Metro, along with Phase 2 of Nagpur Metro.

“The state Cabinet has given its consent to raise funds through a loan for meeting the cost of extended routes of Pune metro. The Maha-Metro can identify financial agencies to seek loans and sign an agreement. This will speed up the execution of the Metro lines,” said Chandrashekhar Tambekar, Spokesperson of Pune metro.

He said that the funds will be raised through loan for execution of the Metro route from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi route to be developed to the existing Line 2 from Vanaz to Ramwadi.

Similarly, the funds will be raised for the routes from PCMC to Nigdi and Swargate to Katraj on the existing from PCMC to Swargate line.

“All these extensions of routes have been approved by the Union government. The availability of funds will ensure faster execution,” said Tambhekar.

The state Cabinet also gave consent for seeking funds through loan for execution of Metro Line from Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Hadapsar on Metro Line 4, and Nal Stop to Manikbaug route.

In another decision, the state Cabinet approved the increased expenditure of Pune Metro rail to construct two new stations on the proposed Swargate to Katraj underground route.
