A software professional, working with Wipro at IT park in Hinjewadi, was robbed of Rs 25,000 by a private cab driver and his accomplices, who posed as co-passengers, on Tuesday night. The victim, Amol Hatim (25), a resident of Rupee Nagar in Nigdi, lodged a complaint at Hinjewadi police station on Wednesday. Based on the complaint, police have booked the cab driver and three unidentified co-passengers under Sections 392, 506 (2), 323, 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police Sub-Inspector S Y Holkar, who is investigating the case, said, “Amol left for his home in Nigdi after finishing his day’s work at the company around 8.15 pm. Like every day he was planning to take a bus, but was offered a lift till Dange chowk in Chinchwad by a private cab driver at a bus stop. As Amol sat in the car, the cab driver and three unidentified persons in the vehicle threatened to kill him. They snatched his ATM card and forcibly took him to IDBI bank’s ATM centre near Jaywant Shikshan Prasarak Mandan in Tathawade area and withdrew Rs 25,000.”
He said the robbers then dumped Amol near Wakad bridge on Mumbai-Bangalore highway around 10.30 pm.
“Amol told us that the robbers gave him Rs 100 so that he could reach home. Since he was in a state of shock, he immediately rushed back home. He approached the police the next day and filed a complaint. He has given us the description of the robbers and we have started our investigation. We are checking if the CCTV camera inside the ATM centre has captured any image,” added Holkar.
