Days after a local gangster was shot dead in Pune, the city police have now come across alleged operations of underworld gangster Ravi Pujari, who is believed to be based in a foreign country.
The police have provided security to a city builder following the arrest of Pujaris aide Naresh Jayram Shetty (43),a native of Mangalore,Karnataka, currently residing in Kishankripa society,Morwadi,Pimpri. He was arrested by the team of Anti-Extortion Cell of the Pune police crime branch, led by inspector Sachin Sawant.
The builder, resident of DSK Chandradeep in Mukund Nagar, had lodged a complaint with the Dattawadi police stastion. The police have booked Shetty along with gangster Ravi Pujari,Kailas Baban Pathare of Kharadi and two others under sections 385,506(2),34 of IPC.
The police said there is a dispute between the complainant and suspect Kailas Pathare over a land in Kharadi area. The police said that Ravi Pujari allegedly called the builder and his manager over phone from a foriegn country and threatened to kill them if they do not settle the land dispute.
Pujari allegedly sent his henchman Naresh Shetty to meet the builder and his manager at a hotel in the city on November 16,for a settlement. Here Shetty and his two accomplices allegedly asked builder to hand over the disputed land to Pathare or pay him money as per the current market price.
But the builder refused. So Pujari again called the builder and allegedly threatened him with dire consequences if he files a complaint against his aides in Pune. The builder however filed a police complaint following which the cops arrested Shetty.
The police said Pujari is a dreaded gang leader and had threatened to kill the builder and his partner because of the police complaint lodged against Shetty. So police protection has been provided to the builder. Meanwhile,Shetty was produced before magistrate court on Saturday. The court remanded him to police custody for four days. Inspector Sawant is investigating the case further.
The police said Pujari was earlier working as a bodyguard of gangster Sadhu Shetty in Mumbai. He later became a part of gang of underworld don Chota Rajan. Then he parted from Rajan and formed his own gang. He is beleived to be operating from a foreign country and has been booked in about 40 cases of murders, attempt to murder, extortions in different cities. A red corner notice has also been issued against him.
The real estate crime seems to be increasing in the city. Last week,a local gangster Kunal Pol (31) who was dealing in land and properties, was shot dead near Samrat hotel in Swargate area. He was associated to the Gajanan Marne gang.
