A 25-YEAR-old man was admitted to a city hospital in an unconscious state with severe injuries on Wednesday, but the Pune police decided to investigate the case further looking at the nature of his injuries. Police said they found the case suspicious after the parents claimed that the man fell from the bike but the nature of injuries prompted them to probe further.

On interrogation, police found that the man was brutally beaten up by seven persons with metal rods and wooden sticks because he went to meet their sister, who is married. As per the information given by Airport police station, Pradeep Sakhare, a resident of Burma Shell area in Lohegaon, who works as an agent at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), was brought to the hospital on January 27 in an unconscious state by his family. His parents told the hospital and the police that he had sustained injuries after he fell from his bike.

Senior police inspector Sanjay Kurundkar, in-charge of Airport police station said, “We were suspicious when we heard the parents’ version because the nature of injuries suggested otherwise. We tried to convince them to tell us the truth. Later, they told us that Pradeep was brutally beaten and that they have registered a complaint.” An FIR was registered on January 30. Police said on January 26, Pradeep went to meet a woman, who earlier lived near his house. The woman’s brother had earlier warned Pradeep not to meet her as it would lead to marital problems. But he went ahead and met her in Mumbai with his friends, said police. When her brothers saw Pradeep and his friends, they brought them to Pune and allegedly thrashed them. The seven arrested have been identified as Sanjay Dhotre (26), Shivaji Dhotre (26), Durgappa Pawar (22), Mayur Dhote (22), Somnath Dhotre (22), Ranjit Dhotre (23) and Manoj Dhotre (24).
