The city police on Tuesday arrested a BPO employee who allegedly claimed to be a member of Dawood Ibrahim gang and demanded Rs 50 lakh from a builder.
Police identified him as Ramesh Raju Pardeshi (35) of Sundar Colony,Thergaon. On Wednesday,he was sent to one-day police custody. Madanlal Radhakishan Malik (59),owner of Poonam Builders,and resident of Mutha Apartment,Gultekdi,filed the complaint.
Police said Pardeshi allegedly sent an SMS on Malik’s cellphone at 4.20 am on September 22. The SMS stated,”I am Nasir Shaikh,member of Dawood Ibrrahim gang. I want Rs 50 lakh by 11 am. My address is Nasir Shaikh,Survey no. 46,Saibaba Nagar,Behind Bismilla Khan Hotel,Kondhwa.” Pardeshi also threatened to kill Malik if his demand was not fulfilled.
Later when Malik got two more phone calls he filed a complaint against unidentified persons at anti-extortion cell Malik gave police the cell number from which he got the SMS. A team of anti-extortion cell led by inspector Sachin Sawant initiated the investigation. Police found that the threat was sent by Pardeshi. Assistant inspector Sachin Koli is investigating the case.
