Seventy years into publication,Archie still loves Veronica, while Betty can’t stop crushing on him. And Jughead shows no signs of going on a healthy diet. But with the publication of Archie Comics Double Digest number 9 and 10,we will be seeing these happy-go-lucky characters doing what they always have, except this time they’re doing it on our home turf.
In an attempt to increase their sales in India,Archie and his friends will be visiting Mumbai to star in a Bollywood movie directed by Raj Patel, their Indo-American friend who’s obsessed with Bollywood. Titled Love Me Baby,Mumbai, the comics will be published in India by Delhi-based Variety Book Depot thus reducing costs by around 50 per cent. We will publish the two books in four parts at Rs 30 each, says owner Om Arora. They will be available in English,Hindi and Malayalam and soon in other regional languages.
The series will see Betty and Veronica adorned in saris and lehengas. Archie will wear a kurta-pyjama while attempting to seduce the girls with renditions of Hindi film songs. The gang will also visit Mumbai, giving Jughead a chance to pig out on Indian food.
The first set of published books from the US will hit stores next week at Rs 150 per digest. The re-publications will thereafter cost Rs 30 per book.
