The body of a newborn girl was found inside a toilet at the Sassoon General Hospital on Tuesday. An offence has been registered against an unidentified woman at the Bundgarden police station. The woman has been booked under Section 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Assistant Police Inspector Madhukar Warpe, who is investigating the case, said a patient admitted in ward no. 2 of Sassoon Hospital had found the girl’s body in the toilet on Tuesday morning.
The patient informed hospital authorities, who alerted the police. Soon, a team from the Bundgarden police station reached the spot. Later, the newborn’s body was sent for post-mortem.
Police are going to check footage from CCTV cameras installed in the hospital to get leads about who had dumped the girl in the hospital toilet.
