There are more allegations against city-based Anup Bege, arrested by the CBI in connection with corruption case involving former Union minister Buta Singhs son,Sarobjit Singh.
Bege claimed to be the Maharashtra state president of Akhil Bhartiya Safai Majdoor Congress (AISMC) and also held press conferences as the state chief of the organisation while launching an agitation in 2006 to protest against inadequate facilities to the conservancy staff of Pune Municipal Corporation.
However, the office-bearers of the AISMC Congress on Saturday said that Beges appointment,as state president of their AISMC was illegal.
Buta Singh lost the election for the post of national president of AISMC in 1998. Still without having any authority,he appointed Bege as he was the Maharashtra State president of the AISMC, said Sudhakaran Pannikar, the national general secretary of the AISMC,during a press conference on Saturday. He demanded the resignation of Buta Singh from the post of president of National Commission for Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes.

Claiming to be the state president of AISMC,Bege was illegally collecting money from conservancy staff assuring them of facilities through various government schemes. So we had filed several complaints with the Pune police against Bege. About two months go,a non-cognisable offence was lodged against Bege at the Cantonment police station. But the police took no action, Pannikar alleged.
We also moved civil court against Buta Singh and Bege. In November 2008,the office of the additional labour commissioner ruled that Buta Singh and Bege have no connection with AISMC. The civil court in Pune had also passed a judgment against Buta Singh and Bege in March this year, Pannikar said.
Meanwhile, when this correspondent visited Beges residence at Solapur Bazar in Pune Cantonment, the family members were watching the television news channels for getting the updates in the CBI case.
A family member said that Bege was innocent. When asked about Beges profession and source of income,a family member said that he was not into any job,but was active in social work and politics for last many years. Sources from labour unions said that Bege claimed to be a doctor, but his actual academic record needs to be verified.
CBI team had raided Beges residence and seized some documents. Subhash Gupta, the superintendent of CBI Anti Corruption Bureau,Pune said that raid was conducted by CBI teams in Mumbai and Delhi. We are not having any details, he said.
