There is no season for black, says Rocky S,talking about showcasing a collection under his year-old label,Rocky Star,in Pune for the first time. Inspired by fashion trends of the 19th century,the collection features red-carpet ensembles that drip with glamour. The time has come where we look back at the trends of the yesteryear’s and try to recreate an old-world charm for the new generation. My inspiration is still the woman of today,who is strong and sensual. She wants to dress fashionably and feel special, says Rocky. The show will be held at Hyatt Regency on August 16.
The garments took more than three months to plan and prepare. Fitted at the hips and flowing to a flare as they reach the floor,the gowns are based on vintage English fashion from the 20s to the 40s. Like most of his collections,and his personal style,all the garments are soaked in black. But where his previous collection earlier this year had hints of jade,Rocky has not introduced any other colour this time. Every designer has a signature style. For Valentino,who is one of my favourites,its the colour red. My signature is the colour black. It is a colour which can always make you look sexy,no matter what, says Rocky,adding that he also enjoys working with nude shades such as beige,grey and ivory.
His love for black comes from an overload of designing colourful costumes for Bollywood projects,he says. Rocky adds that black is synonymous with his line,as both the colour and the clothes can never go out of vogue. My line is elegant evening wear and people will wear my clothes irrespective of the weather conditions outside. They will wear it indoors whether it is hot or cold, he says.
Rocky uses soft flowy fabrics such as chiffon and satin,with texturing done by machine embroidery and intricate detailing by hand-embroidered patchwork. Apart from black,the line also features another of Rockys favourite details crystals. Thus,the garments are heavily ornamented and require little or no accessorisation. A classy pair of stilettos with make-up to match the glamour.

While some of his garments merely tease the floor with a kiss,others are laced with a fishtail. For those who like their dresses short,the line features a sequined mid-thigh length cocktail dress with a deep V-neck covered with sheer fabric.
