AFTER the franchise owner of a prominent gym in Pune, Shakeel Bijapure (42), had a close shave when he was fired at while he was exiting his car from the basement of a mall at Kothrud on Monday night, the first information report on Tuesday has identified the suspect as Ali Shaikh.
The FIR mentions that Ali Shaikh, a resident of Mangalwar Peth, allegedly hired a person, who is yet to be identified, to kill Bijapure and extort Rs 1 crore from him.
According to police, Bijapure left the Gold Gym, located in Revolution Mall, Kothrud, around 8 pm. He and his driver, Sudhakar Londhe, were about to exit the mall in his car parked in the basement, when an unidentified person intercepted them and shot at them. Police said, two of the three bullets fired at Bijapure hit the windscreen of his SUV while the third dented the rear right door. The incident took place around 8 pm.
On hearing the gun shots, the private security guards rushed to the spot. Teams of Kothrud police and crime branch reached the spot on receiving information.
Police checked CCTV camera videos which revealed that a motorcyclist wearing a hood jacket entered the mall. Senior officers visited the crime scene for investigation. Later, Bijapure lodged the FIR at Alankar police station and named Ali Shah. Accordingly, the police has booked Ali Shah under sections 307, 385, 427, 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of Arms Act. However, Ali Shah was not arrested till late evening. Police said that as per the complaint, Bijapure got a call from an unidentified person, saying he has cheated Ali Shah. The person allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore. And then an unidentified attacker opened fire at him. Police said that probe is on to confirm whether Ali Shah is linked to the attack or not.
