The Pune unit of Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Sunday arrested an alleged drug peddler and recovered around 220 kg of ganja from him.
The suspect,identified as Forakh Maruti Salunkhe (46),is a resident of Shukrawar Peth and is a historysheeter.
ATS sleuths produced Salunkhe before a magistrate court on Monday where judicial magistrate (first class) A B Shaikh remanded him in police custody till September 21. According to ATS,Salunkhe was nabbed near Parvati Hill in Dattawati around 9 am. During search,ATS recovered eight bags of ganja from his car. ATS officials said ganja weighing 220 Kg is worth Rs 7.13 lakh.
ATS police inspector Atul Sabnis lodged a complaint under sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Primary investigation revealed that he brought ganja from Andhra Pradesh. Police have launched a search to nab his accomplices.
