The hygiene standards at the Dolphin water park near Appu Ghar in Nigdi leave a lot to be desired. Amit Kumar (name changed) found out on Sunday that the nylon swimming costumes given on rent by the water park authorities are not washed after being returned by visitors and given to others. On Sunday afternoon,a disgruntled Kumar sought a refund on his tickets from the water park authorities. Further, the authorities said there had been no complaints from customers in this regard so far and that no responsible person was available to speak regarding the issue.

“I visited the water park on Sunday afternoon with family and friends. Since we fell short of three swimming costumes, the water park authorities asked us to rent three costumes for Rs 65. But when I went to collect them,I found that they were all wet. When I questioned them,I was shocked to find out that the staff was giving the same wet costumes that were returned by other visitors. They simply let them dry in the sun,” Kumar said. When the staff was asked about possible health problems, they said that because of heavy rush on Sunday, there was no time for washing the costumes.

According to M P Jangan, who hands over the costumes to customers and also works as a watchman at the water park,“There is a lot of rush here on Thursdays,Saturdays and Sundays. The customers get impatient if they do not get the costumes immediately. They say they don’t have time and are ready to accept unwashed costumes. However, according to supervisor Sagar Bhingare,“We get new costumes every time we fall short of them during times when a lot of customers visit the water park.” When asked about the issue,S G Khedkar,a staff at the ticket counter,“We have a maid who washes all the costumes every evening.”
