The ongoing construction work of the double storey flyover at Nashik Phata has made travelling for commuters risky. Besides, traffic jams being a regular feature, the bad condition of the road poses a potential threat to motorists and pedestrians losing both limb and life. Minor accidents have become commonplace here. The flyover is being constructed by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation at a cost of around Rs 100 crore.
The double-storey flyover is touted to be the largest flyover in Asia. Work for the same has been going on for the past one year, and it ma very well continue for some time longer. Due to the ongoing work, the carriage width of the Pune Nashik Road and the Old Mumbai Pune Highway has been significantly reduced.
The Nashik Phata area happens to be an important junction for commuters of both Pune and its neighbouring areas. Due to the reduction of carriage width, travelling has become a travail.
Nisha Das a resident of Bhosari, who travels to Pune every day complains of the bad condition of the road. Due to the ongoing construction work, the road condition is really bad with pot holes marking the road. As we dont have an alternative route,we have to bear the trouble everyday, she said.
Shiv Sena corporator Seema Salve said the construction that is of enormous magnitude is being done without any thought for the commuters. The present contractor should have arranged for an alternate road. The civic body also has chosen to turn a blind eye to the situation, she said
