As heat rises, Shivajinagar becomes hottest place in Pune
Lohegaon’s Automatic Weather Station (AWS) had recorded 40.2 as the maximum temperature
Summer has been exceptionally harsh for Pune and Maharashtra at large In a significant departure from normal, Shivajinagar on Monday recorded 39.2 degrees celsius which made it hotter than the Koregaon Park which recorded 39 degrees as its maximum temperature. Lohegaon’s Automatic Weather Station (AWS) however had recorded 40.2 as the maximum temperature.
Shivajinagar AWS is located in the College of Agriculture and thus the temperature recorded there is typically lower than areas like Koregaon Park or Magarpatta which have ongoing construction activities and depletion of green cover. Cloud cover over the city and incursion of moisture has brought about a rise in temperatures.
Pune and its surrounding areas are expected to see thunderstorms and lighting thanks to the incursion of moisture as well as local wind discontinuity. Already parts of Kolhapur have reported rain with thunder and lighting and Pune is expected to see thunder and lighting.
