A man robbed a micro-finance firm at Pimpri camp of Rs 8.73 lakh in less than five minutes using a knife and a fake pistol that he left behind after he decamped with the cash on Tuesday night.
A complaint has been registered at Pimpri police station by Pradnyawant Shrirang Patode (32),the manager with the Pimpri branch of Ujjivan Micro Finance Pvt Ltd.
Police said neither was any CCTV camera installed nor were any security guards deployed at the firm. As per the complaint,the incident took place between 8.10 pm and 8.14 pm on the fourth floor office at a commercial complex near Baba Hardas Mandir on River Road. A man aged between 30-35 years entered the office armed with a knife and a pistol. He could not be identified as he was wearing a monkey cap.
Senior inspector Mohan Vidhate of Pimpri police station said,As soon as he entered the office,he shouted at the employees for denying loan to his mother. He threatened to kill the employees and asked them to fill his bag with cash. The employees gave him Rs 8.73 lakh and he fled. While he was going out he dropped the pistol. It was later discovered that it was a toy pistol, added Vidhate
A case under the Indian Penal Code section 392 (robbery) has been registered. Immediately after the incident,Dnyaneshwar Chavan,deputy commissioner of police (zone III),Sudhir Chougule,assistant commissioner of police (Pimpri divison) and crime branch officers visited the spot. We are now investigating the case based on what he said during the robbery. We are also working on some other leads, added Vidhate.
