Indian Bank,Chennai prevailed over Pune City Police 4-3,in a thrilling quarter-final encounter in the 31st edition of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial hockey tournament.
In the match played at the Major Dhyan Chand hockey stadium,Indian Bank raced into the lead in the fifth minute when V Raja turned in a Phillip Martin pass. Pune City Police,seemed to rally almost immediately and created a couple of chances in the next couple of minutes,only for poor finishing and the Indian goalkeeper coming in their way.
However,Amol Bhosale converted a penalty corner,won due to sustained pressure from the Pune City Police,in the 23rd minute to draw his side level. Barely two minutes later,Ganesh Girigosavi put Pune City Police in the lead as he scored off another penalty corner.
Indian Bank came out all guns blazing for the second half. Barely a minute after the re-start,Raja popped up at the end of a Heartlin James centre and restored parity. In the the 42nd minute,Charles hammered in a Raja pass to put Indian Bank in the lead and in the 53rd minute,Raja helped himself to his hat-trick,sealing victory for his side.
In the last quarter-final match,Railway Boys Club Pune defeated Union Bank of India 3-2. Shashikant Biranje,Akash Khaire and Rajeev Bhatkar scored for the Railway Boys Club while T Kiran scored both goals for Union Bank of India.
On Saturday,Railway Boys Club will take on Mumbai Republicans in the first semi-final while SRPF,Pune will battle Indian Bank,Chennai in the second semi-final.
