Even as the state government has allocated funds for airports in the state, the land acquisition plan for the proposed international airport in Chakan-Rajgurunagar area in Pune is yet to reach the General Administration (GA) department, under which the state civil aviation department functions.
The GA department maintains that to take the airport plan forward, they need the land acquisition plan from the Pune district administration.
We understand the importance of an international airport in Pune. We are waiting for the Pune divisional commissioner and Pune district collector to submit the plan for land acquisition. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is the nodal agency that will develop the airport, said deputy secretary,General Administration, RT Jadhav.
The district administration said the delay was caused after the government first sought acquisition of 1,600 hectares and later 2,100 hectares. Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh said the plan would be forwarded to the state government next week.
We needed one stretch of land and we wanted to do it peacefully after taking the opinion of all stakeholders. It should be non-irrigated land and the farmers should be willing to give up land without any opposition if given good compensation, said Deshmukh.
The state government had recently sanctioned Rs 480 crore for airport development jointly allocated for the city,Kolhapur,Amravati,Ratnagiri and the multi modal international cargo hub and airport at Nagpur.
In its report,MADC officials had said the proposal sent to the government from their side had sought 2,700 hectares. Earlier, the government had identified 1,600 hectares in the area, towards the west side of the earlier proposed site at Chakan.
The plan proposed by MADC envisages the project in Koye,Dhamne,Pait and Raudharwadi villages of Rajgurunagar. The proposal needs at least Rs 1,000 crore for initial land acquisition and other formalities as well as Rs 40 crore for the appointment of consultants for carrying out a techno-feasibility study in the area. Officials said a proper study of the area was required before acquiring the land and the agency would require funds to carry out those basic operations. The proposed airport would also be benefit Satara,Sangli,Kolhapur,Solapur,Ahmednagar and Beed districts.
