A first information report (FIR) was lodged in the case at Shrigonda police station.
A gelatin sticks blast in a well at Takli Kadewalit village in Shrigonda taluka of Ahmednagar district resulted in the deaths of three workers on Saturday.
Police have identified the deceased persons as Nagnath Bhalchandra Gavade (25) of Karjat, Ganesh Namdev Walunj (25) and Suraj alias Nasir Inamdar (25) of Takli Kadewalit village. Digging work was underway at the time the explosion took place.
Three others — identified as Waman Ransingh, Ravindra Khamkar, Jabbar Inamdar, all residents of Takli Kadewalit village — were injured in the incident. A first information report (FIR) was lodged in the case at Shrigonda police station. Police have booked a private contractor on charges of negligence.
Police said the work to dig a well at one Waman Ransingh’s farm land was underway on Saturday when the workers were allegedly asked to drill a hole using a blasting tractor machine and put gelatin sticks into it. However the gelatin exploded just as the workers were putting it inside the hole around 5 pm.
The impact was so severe that three workers died on the spot. The injured persons were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said the contractor did not take proper precautions and failed to provide safety equipment to the workers, due to which the incident took place. Police inspector Dnyaneshwar Bhosale said they have arrested the accused contractor Sanjay Ithape and further investigation is on.
