Twenty-year-old Aditya Bhandarkar mastered the new nine-hole PowerPlay Golf format to emerge winner in the Poona Golf Club’s Intra-Club round of the Signature Club Golf Championships 2009,played at the Poona Golf Club.
Bhandarkar,ranked 13th in the Indian Amateur golf rankings,and playing in the 0-8 handicap category,tallied 21 points and was followed by Ikram Khan in second place with 19 points.
Bhandarkar played a total of four PowerPlays,sinking two birdies,on the 8 th and 9 th holes and tackling the 6 th and 7 th holes at par. A total of 168 golfers participated in the event.
The team from Poona Golf Club will lock horns with three clubs from Mumbai and one club from Goa,Nagpur,Indore and Bhopal each to select the champion Club from the Western Zone,which will then vie with winners from the three other zones in the all-India final for the honour of emerging the champion golf club of the country.
Runner-up Ikram Khan also sunk two birdies, on the 8 th & 9 th holes,but double bogeys on the 3rd and 7th holes and bogeys on the 1 st and 2 nd holes put paid to his title aspirations.
