ACB nets two more suspects for stealing diesel

The CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested Popat Kadam and Ashok Waikar, both residents of Daund, for allegedly stealing high speed diesel worth Rs 10 crore.

The CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested Popat Kadam and Ashok Waikar, both residents of Daund, for allegedly stealing high speed diesel (HSD) worth Rs 10 crore. On April 25,former chief loco inspector Veer Singh of Railway consumer depot,Daund, was arrested.

CBI said Singh, along with his accomplices, entered into a criminal conspiracy to defraud the Central Railway to the tune of Rs 10 crore by embezzling 20.33 lakh litres of HSD. The incident, according to CBI,took place between April 2011 and July 2012 when Singh was posted in Daund and was the officer in-charge of oil tankers.

“Kadam,Waikar and another suspect Devkate were allegedly receiving money for manipulating the records and diverting the HSD. Devkate is hospitalised so we can’t arrest him, while the other two are not cooperating with us,” Inspector (CBI) Sanjay Gokhale told the court. CBI public prosecutors Vivek Saxena and Ayyub Pathan argued that custody of the arrested accused was required to recover the amount as well as arrest other suspects. Kadam and Waikar were remanded in police custody till May 9.
