It is now well over a month that notorious sex racketeer Kalyani alias Jayshree Deshpande (45) is on the run and the Pune police have failed to arrest her. The social security cell of Pune police crime branch had on October 10 busted the racket at an apartment in the upmarket Bhusari Colony in Kothrud,in which two foreign girls from Uzbekistan were arrested.

An offence in this case was registered with the Kothrud police station. A crime branch team led by inspector Sanjay Nikam had arrested three of the girls and three others for allegedly carrying sex trade at the apartment as per instructions of Kalyani.

DCP (crime) Rajesh Bansode said,“The investigation should now be taken forward by Kothrud police for arresting Kalyani.” Inspector Nikam said,“We are also looking into the case along with Kothrud police. Searches are on. But Kalyani keeps changing her locations.”

Kalyani was last arrested in April in a sex racket case registered with the Chatushringi police station. But she managed to get a bail and started her operations again. Now,with her name being linked to girls from Uzbekistan, the police believe she has developed a good network with international sex racketeers.

Born and brought up in a local family, and later married to an autorickshaw driver,Kalyani has been on police records since 2000. Named in 24 criminal cases in Pune and Mumbai, she may be a part of sex trade since 90s,say the police.

Police sources said she is a racketeer with operations wider than her male counterparts like Ajay Patil,Shakti Thapa,Mangesh Rudraksha and also Raju Bengali alias Mamunoor Rashid. She is also allegedly involved in trafficking of over 300 girls from West Bengal,Bangladesh,Bihar and other states.

The police said Kalyani ran an escort agency “Venus Escorts” from her bungalow in Sus area of Pune,a spot which has become well-known for sex and crime. Kalyani’s close aide Anil Dhole, who used to bring girls from Mumbai for prostitution, was murdered at this bungalow in December 2007.

Sources said Kalyani has a strong network among hoteliers and organised crime syndicates. She hires girls, including those from high profile and educated class and foreigners,on contract basis for sex trade. She was also booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) after her name cropped up in a murder case at Haveli police station. However, she was discharged from MCOCA later.

Every time after being released on bail, she has continued to brazenly operate sex rackets right under the nose of the police. The Hinjewadi police had arrested Kalyani on March 31,2012 in a flesh trade case. In April, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested an inspector and a constable at the Hinjewadi police station for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 40,000 from Kalyani’s cousin Jatin Chawda for not seeking extension of her police custody at the court.

Police sources said Kalyani also wanted to make a film based on her life, which was supposed to be shot in Pune,Mumbai and Ahmedabad. She claimed that was forced to join sex trade due to urgent need of money during a family problem.
