The Pune police have detained two minor boys, aged 14 and 10,for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl near an Army quarters in Wanawadi on March 31.

Unfortunately, the girl, young as she was,did not realise what had happened to her until she saw a similar incident on television. Although the incident took place around 6.30 pm on March 31,she had been unable to tell her mother due to shock and partly her ignorance. The girl told her mother about the incident only after she viewed a rape-like scene on television on Monday morning.

The victim’s parents then lodged a complaint against the suspects at the Wanawadi police station. Police sent the two boys to remand home on Wednesday as per court orders.

According to police, the two boys lived in the same neighbourhood as the girl. They allegedly lured her into the bushes under the pretext of playing. However, they allegedly raped the girl there.

The girl then went home and out of shock could not utter a word about he incident to her mother.

Later the next day, when she was watching television, she saw a rape-like scene and started crying. That was when her mother came to know what had happened. She also told her parents the boys’ names.

Police have booked the two boys under Section 376 (2) (g) of Indian Penal Code.

Assistant police inspector S N Hulwan, the investigation officer, said,“As the boys are minors, they have been sent to remand home. The victim has been admitted to Sassoon hospital for medical test.”
