Three persons,including a five-year-old girl and an 87-year-old woman,were killed in separate road accidents on Thursday.
In the first incident,a speeding jeep knocked down a scooter killing Sonali Kailas Trimbak (5),a resident of Undri,near EME workshop at Wanavdi,around 10 am. Sonalis grandfather Baswant Narsingh Kadam (59) has lodged a complaint with the Wanavdi police station. Kadam,along with his wife and Sonali were going on a scooter when the speeding jeep hit them from the rear. They were rushed to a hospital. However,Sonali was pronounced dead at the hospital. The police have launched a search for the jeep driver. Sub inspector V M Mandale is investigating the case.
A tanker of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) knocked down a pedestrian Nathabai Muthiyan (87) near Big India chowk in Nigdi. The Nigdi police have arrested the driver Sandesh Pawar (36) of Walhekarwadi.
The police said that Muthiyan,a resident of Nigdi Pradhikaran,was standing by the side of the road when the tanker knocked her down. Assistant inspector A V Deshpande is investigating the case.
In a third incident,an unknown vehicle ran over an unidentified person,around 40 years old,in front of the Empire Estate in Pimpri.
The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot. The Pimpri police is investigating the case.
