767 power theft,3,911 illegal connection cases detected in Pune division

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) detected as many as 767 cases of power theft and 3,911 cases of unauthorised electricity connections during 2011-2012 fiscal in the Pune division. Under power theft detection drive,the power utility also collected Rs 6.25 crore.

Meanwhile,MSEDCL’s Abhay scheme has helped 2,582 consumers clear their arrears by allowing them to pay the principal amount. The amount was a whopping Rs 2.49 crore. The scheme was introduced by the power utility to help those consumers whose electricity connections were cut due to accumulation of bad debts. At least 50 per cent of the interest on the principal arrear,apart from 100 per cent penalty amount has been waived.
