A day on, 65-yr-old hit by racing bullock cart dies

The 65-YEAR-OLD farmer who was critically injured after being hit by a bullock during a bullock cart race in Bhor taluka on Monday, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

The deceased Vishnu Genba Bhome was a resident of Shind village in Pune’s Bhor taluka. Officials from Bhor police station under Pune Rural jurisdiction said that on Monday around 3 pm during a bullock cart race organised as part of a Jatra — a traditional folk fair and gathering — was held in honour of village deity Navlai Devi and to celebrate Ram Navami.

The Jatra was organised on an open ground in the Rambagh area of Bhor town, located around 60 km from Pune City. “Initial investigation suggests that Bhome was part of the crowd that was watching the semifinal round of the bullock cart race. At the time of the incident, Bhome was standing very close to the track on the extreme left hand wherein six to seven carts were in the race. At the point he went even closer to the track, he was knocked down by a racing bullock cart. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, and later referred to a private hospital in Pune for further treatment.” said an officer from Bhor police station.
