The Pune police crime branch arrested five criminals on Friday for robbing valuables worth Rs 1.2 lakh from three students of Symbiosis Institute and a passer-by in Hinjewadi two weeks ago. Several cases from Pune city and other rural areas were registered against them. A court has remanded the accused in police custody till March 13.
Police said the five were arrested from Vimannagar while they were planning another dacoity. On February 26,three students including a girl from Symbiosis Institute and another person were looted by five men who came in a Santro car and robbed them at gunpoint.
Acting on a tip-off,a team led by police inspector Sachin Sawant of Anti-Extortion Cell arrested the five and seized the car,two pistols,nine live cartridges and some valuables from them. They have been identified as Mangesh Kanchan (25) of Uruli Kanchan,Sandeep Ghode (21) of Saswad,Daulat Gopal Parge,alias Dawliya (25) of Warje-Malwadi,Satish Kisan Kurhade (24) of Waafgaon in Khed taluka and Sachin Maruti Madne (25) of Rajale in Phaltan taluka of Satara district.
Police have also recovered chilli powder,iron rods,meat choppers and four cellphones from them. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Anant Shinde said,The gang has many offences including those of dacoity,robbery and rape registered against them. We have come to know that they procured pistols from outside Maharashtra and the car is owned by one of them. We are working on invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against them.
Investigations have revealed that the gang has been looting people at Mulshi dam,Paud and Karad at gunpoint by stopping them at secluded places, said Rajesh Bansode,deputy commissioner of police.
Other members of the investigating team are ACP Vinod Satav,constables Sanjay Kalokhe,Ganesh mali,Rishikesh Mahalle,Kashinath Jagtap,Chandrakant Ingale,Maruti Bhujbal,Nagnath Gavli,Praveen Shirke and Pandurang Wanjale.
