Water outflow continued for the third consecutive day Wednesday with 26,824 cusecs being discharged from the Bund Garden bridge. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD),Pune has received 39% excess rains as of July 24 with more rains expected in the days to come.
Vithal Banhode,in-charge of the disaster management cell of the district collectorate said,water has been released from 13 dams in the Bhima basin.
Major releases were from Pavana,(7846 cusecs),Mulshi (12,000 cusecs),and Khadakwasla (4,847 cusecs). Other dams from where water was released from include Yedgaon,Wadaj,Kalmodi,Chaskaman,Vadivale,Andhra,Kasarsai,Gunjawani and Nira Devghar.
Due to the discharge of water from dams,levels in the river has increased,leading to alerts being issued in both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Due to heavy discharge from Pavana,the temple of Moraya Gosavi,in Chinchwadgaon was inundated. Water also entered several low lying areas in the twin township. Special patrols have been constituted to keep a watch on the rising water levels. The Baba Bhide bridge in Deccan was also stopped vehicles this afternoon.
