A 37-year-old dairy trader was hacked to death on Katraj Narhe Road on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Police suspect the incident to be a fallout of a dispute over financial dealings and have booked two persons, one of whom is a supplier of milk products.
Bharti Vidyapeeth police have identified the deceased as Balasaheb Patil, who, along with his wife, was into selling and supplying milk. Police said they received a call from a local resident from the area that a person was being brutally attacked. A police team rushed to the spot and found a man lying in a pool of blood, with multiple stab injuries. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead.
The man was later identified as Patil. Police said that Patil was stabbed 16 times with a sharp weapon. He received injuries on his hands, legs, neck and head. A First Information Report (FIR) was later registered at Bharti Vidyapeeth police station. As the police launched the probe during the day, they zeroed down on two persons, identified as Kunal Randive and Sagar Giri, based on the primary inquiry and information obtained during the probe.
Assistant inspector Sandeep Yadav of Bharti Vidyapeeth police station, who is investigating the case, said, “Our primary probe has revealed that Patil owed Randive around Rs 1.50 lakh. This was the amount Patil was to pay Randive for milk products supplied to him in the past. Giri is Randive’s friend. We suspect the murder to be a fallout of the dispute over the payment of money. The exact sequence of events that led to the murder will come to light only after we arrest two suspects. We have launched a search for them.”
