The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is set to intensify its drive against long-standing property tax defaulters, especially those who have never paid taxes despite owning residential or commercial properties.
Of the 7.31 lakh registered properties in the city, over 4.26 lakh property owners have already paid their property tax dues for the current financial year, officials said.
However, there are still 34,022 properties that have never paid property tax. PCMC is preparing to take stringent action against such defaulters, according to Assistant Commissioner of Property tax department, Avinash Shinde.
PCMC has already collected Rs 522 crore in property tax revenue in the first quarter, setting a new record. The civic body has set a collection target of Rs 1,300 crore for FY 2025–26, and its 18 divisional offices are working aggressively to achieve this goal.
PCMC has issued notices to property owners with outstanding dues. Those who continue to evade payments despite repeated notices will now face firm legal and administrative action. For chronic residential defaulters, especially those with arrears pending for 5 to 10 years or more, the corporation plans to initiate attachment of movable assets such as cars and other valuables under recovery provisions. Over 1.12 lakh residential properties owe a combined total of Rs 310 crore in outstanding tax dues, the tax department said.
As an incentive, PCMC is offering a 4% rebate on general property tax to those who pay online between July 1 and September 30, 2025. Civic officials have urged residents to take advantage of this facility and also link their mobile numbers and email addresses with their property tax accounts to receive real-time updates and digital access to tax services.
“PCMC’s tax collection campaign has received encouraging public response. However, there are still a significant number of property owners who have not paid taxes even once. The administration will now act strictly against such cases. Attachment proceedings will begin against those with arrears pending for over 5 or 10 years,”said Pradip Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, PCMC
“With a target of Rs 1,300 crore for the current year, all divisional offices are working at full pace to boost collections. We appeal to citizens to use the online payment option and avail the 4% rebate. By linking their mobile numbers and email IDs with their tax accounts, residents can receive bills and updates conveniently at home,” said Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner, Property Tax Department, PCMC.
