A three-year-old boy from a school in Koregaon Park was allegedly sexually assaulted several times by a 42-year-old school bus driver in the last one month. While the police have arrested the driver. the Department of Education has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
The Vimantal police have booked the accused driver, a resident of Ghorpadi, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The police said the incident came to light after the boy started showing reluctance to board the bus and would cry every time he saw the driver. He told his mother about the abuse after she made several attempts to make him talk, said a police officer.
Senior police inspector Sanjay Kurundkar said: “We have come to know that the accused had been sexually harassing the child inside the bus. The accused was arrested on Saturday. He was produced in court and was remanded in police custody for a day. He was produced in the court again on Monday and has now been remanded in magisterial custody.”
Deputy Director of Education Suman Shinde said: “An inquiry in the case will be conducted by the local education officer. We will also be carrying out surprise checks of the transport arrangements for schools in the city.”
