3 of inter-state gang held for murder sent to 5-day police custody

A magistrate court on Sunday remanded three members of an inter-state gang of robbers,who were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of another robber belonging to the same gang,in police custody till April 4.

A magistrate court on Sunday remanded three members of an inter-state gang of robbers,who were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of another robber belonging to the same gang,in police custody till April 4.

The police had arrested the accused from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat on Saturday.

On the morning of March 22,the body of a middle-aged man was found decapitated at a secluded spot in Rambhau Gawali Udyan at Bhosari on Alandi Road.

According to police,the victim,identified as Baban alias Arun Mhaske,was a member of the gang and was killed following a dispute over distribution of booty. Initially,the police were not able to identify the person. After getting a tip-off that a person in connection to the crime had fled to Surat,a team,led by inspector Arun Walture,was sent to Surat on Friday from where they arrested Jogindar Rupa Chavan.

During interrogation,Chavan said he and three of his accomplices had killed Mhaske,a native of Buldhana in Maharashtra.

Based on information given by Chavan,police arrested Shainul Moharram Ansari (32) and Prabhu Mahesh Chavan (28), both from Uttar Pradesh. Police booked the accused for murder of Mhaske and produced them before a court where they were remanded in police custody till April 4.
