Three members of a family from Thane and their driver were killed after the car in which they were travelling fell into a rivulet from a bridge on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Monday.
Three persons were injured after another car rammed into the Delta Force vehicle that was called to the spot to lift the car that had fallen off the bridge.
Lonavala rural police said the accident took place around 2.30 pm when four members of a family from Shahapur in Thane were on their way to Pune. Police said the accident took place as the driver lost control.
Police have identified the deceased as Vasant Popatlal Gandhi (75),his wife Sarojini (70),Jitendra Kantilal Gandhi (52) and driver Devidas Marathe (44). Jitendras wife Jayashree (50) was injured in the accident.
The deceased suffered injuries and died of subsequent drowning. We have got in touch with the family members in Thane, a police officer said. Inspector Mohan Jadhav is investigating the case.
An officer of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway control room said,The driver of the other vehicle lost control and hit a Delta Force vehicle. We have recorded a number of cases of vehicles skidding due to heavy rainfall.
In another incident on Sunday afternoon,four persons travelling in a tourist vehicle were killed after it turned turtle and rammed into another car near Kamshet.
