3 arrested for illegally transporting liquor

THE STATE excise department has arrested three persons, including an owner of a hotel, who were illegally transporting liquor from Goa in a car with an amber beacon to make it look like a government car and evade checks on Maharashtra-Goa border and other subsequent locations.

However, the excise officers managed to intercept the car and seized liquor worth Rs 53,000.

The suspects have been identified as Mahesh Santosh Paigude (35) , a resident of Shivne who owns a hotel in Deshmukhwadi, and two staffers from his hotel, Sohan Rao (30) and Santosh Vishwakarma (25).

Later, the excise department officers also raided Paigude’s hotel and seized illegal liquor worth over Rs 80,000 brought from Goa.

The excise department conducted the raid under the supervision of superintendent Mohan Varde.

The team comprised of inspector M R Patil, R P Shewale, sub-inspectors N M Markad, S G Gogawale and Vikas Thorat.
