The family of Snehali Mali,a 23-year-old woman who met with a serious accident when her two-wheeler hit a pothole on Paud Road on Wednesday night, has demanded strong measures to improve roads in the city during monsoon to avoid such mishaps.
We were so worried as Snehali was unconscious for some time when taken to hospital after the accident. It was due to Gods grace that she did not sustain any major injury. Pothole accidents can be serious and even fatal. It is a wake up call for the civic administration to ensure city roads are safe to travel during monsoon, Ananya Mhaskar,Snehali’s elder sister told Newsline on Friday.
Meanwhile, local BJP leader Sandeep Khardekar said criminal complaint must be lodged against municipal commissioner and other concerned civic staffers in connection with Wednesday’s accident and general precarious road conditions.
Municipal commissioner and staff associated with road-work can be booked for culpable homicide for any fatal pothole related accident. Do civic authorities waiting for any citizen to lose life? We are going to lodge a complaint with police against civic administration regarding Wednesday’s accident and rampant corruption and irregularities in road repair work, he said.
Snehali was heading towards Kothrud depot on Wednesday evening on her two-wheeler when her vehicle fell into a pothole filled with rainwater near Shankarrao More Vidyalaya and Junior College on Paud Road.
My sister fell unconscious after the accident and was taken to a private hospital by local residents. They contacted our cousin going through latest calls in Snehali’s mobile. We shifted Snehali to another private hospital, where she underwent CT-Scan and other diagnostic tests. She was discharged from hospital after spending some hours under medical observation, Ananya said.
She added that her sister was fine by Friday morning.
