2 trainee pilots killed, 2 others injured as car overturns near Pune; cops suspect drunk driving

The victims were trainees of Redbird Flight Training Academy in Baramati and the Pune rural police launched a probe into the accident.

Two trainee pilots were killed and two others suffered significant injuries in a road accident as their car overturned at Jainakwadi on the Baramati-Bhigwan Road in the early hours of Monday, said the Pune rural police.

The police identified the deceased as Takshu Sharma from Delhi and Aditya Kanase from Mumbai, both aged 21, and trainees of Redbird Flight Training Academy in Baramati.

Two other trainees, identified as Krishna Ishu Singh from Bihar and Cheshtha Bishnoi from Rajasthan, both also aged 21, who were also in the car at the time of the accident, were seriously injured. Both were undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of a hospital, the police said.

According to the police, the four Redbird Flight Training Academy trainees went for a car ride Monday morning. The police said that prima facie they had consumed alcohol.

While driving towards Bhigwan, Krishna Singh allegedly lost control of the car, causing it to overturn at around 3.15 am.
