The Pune police have arrested four persons,including two minors,for robbing two software professionals on Baner Road on Sunday.
The suspects have been identified as Altaf Rafiq Kazi,19,of Warje and Satyaki Shantanu Patwardhan,20,of Narayan Peth. Two minor accomplices have been sent to remand home.
The four had robbed Apurv Mahavir Kothadiya and Abhinandan Kudale,both from Wakad. Police said Kothadiya and Kudale,who work in Hinjewadi,were returning home on a scooter after watching a movie in Kothrud. As the scooter ran out of fuel,they got down and were pushing the scooter when the four suspects on two motorcycles intercepted their way on the Mumbai-Bangalore Highway near Baner.
The suspects initially offered them help by toeing the scooter for some distance. Later,they threatened the software professionals,took them to an ATM on Baner Road and forced them to withdraw Rs 20,000. They then fled with Rs 20,000 and their cell phones but the victims managed to note down the number of one of the two-wheelers. They lodged a complaint at the Chatushringi police station and gave the number to the cops.
The Chatushringi police launched a search operation and nabbed the suspects. Inspector Nikam said that Patwardhan and Kazi have been remanded in police custody till Saturday by the magistrate court. Police said the duo are history sheeters and investigations are on to find out if they are involved in more highway robberies. Meanwhile,Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone III) Shahji Umap has declared an award of Rs 5,000 for the investigation team.
