19-yr-old girl assaults friend,her mother with knife; injures self

Police suspect the incident to be the fallout of an earlier dispute

A 19-YEAR-OLD girl allegedly assaulted her 20-year-old friend and her mother with a knife before she inflicted injuries on herself on Thursday evening in Pimpri. Police suspect the incident to be the fallout of an earlier dispute between the friends.

Pimpri police said the girl Shwetali Dhaware,went to her friend Stephy Samuel’s (21) house at Ajmera Society in Pimpri around 7.30 pm.

Police sub-inspector S D Bhutekar of Pimpri police station said,“Stephy was in another room when she heard her mother Leelamma scream. As Stephy came out see what was wrong,she saw Shwetali attacking her mother with a knife. As Stephy tried to stop her,Shwetali assaulted her and later inflicted injuries on herself.”

Police said all three were taken to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital by neighbours.

“Leelamma’s injuries are serious but she is out of danger. Stephy has been discharged while Shwetali is still under treatment. We have registered an offence under section 326 (causing hurt with dangerous weapons) of the IPC. We are yet to arrest Shwetali,” Bhutekar said.

Bhutekar added,“As of now we are not sure of why Shwetali attacked the two. We will be able to ascertain the reason for the assault only after questioning them.”
