19-yr-old crushed to death

Two friends critical; bike rider was trying to overtake a container truck, say eyewitnesses.

A 19-year-old college student was crushed to death by a container truck when the motorcycle he was riding along with two friends, tried to overtake the truck in Dehu Road area on the Pune-Mumbai highway on Wednesday afternoon.

Kartik Nadar died in the accident, said Dehu Road police and added that Harsh Satyendra Singh (18) and Krushnadev Singh (19), who were on the bike,  were injured. All of them were residents of Bapdeo Nagar, Dehu Road.

Police said they were not wearing helmets.

Station duty officer at Dehu Road police station said, “Eyewitnesses told us that the biker tried to overtake the container and collided with it. The rider lost control and the three fell down. They sustained severe injuries. Nadar died during treatment while the other two are critical. Doctors told us that the next 24 hours will be crucial.” Police said the three studied at a private college on Dehu Road.
