Around 19,000 cusecs was released from Pavana,Khadakwasla and Mulshi dams on the second consecutive day on Tuesday. District and civic authorities said more water would be released as heavy rain continue to lash the command and catchment areas of the dams.
Vitthal Banhote,incharge of the disaster management cell of the district collectorate,said 4,000 cusecs of water was released from Pavana dam,7,000 cusecs from Khadakwasla dam and 4,000 cusecs from Mulshi. Water was also released from Kasarai,Andhra,Bhama Askhed and other dams. The release of the water was necessiated as majority of the dams are full, he said.
The civic and district authorities have issued alerts to low -lying areas as discharge of water from the dams would continue .
As on Tuesday,Khadakwasla was 91.06 per cent full,Temghar 59.24 per cent,Warasgaon 67.01 per cent,Panshet 84.47 per cent and Pavana 86.05 per cent.
Last year,none of the dams were more than 30 per cent full around this time.
