The city police have booked three people for forcing a 13-year-old girl to marry one of them,a 35-year-old married man.

Janabai Sukhdev Jagdane,Mangal Navgire,and Umesh Shinde have been booked in the case after the victim’s mother,Sangeeta Navnath Walhekar,filed a complaint.

She is a resident of Ambedkarnagar slums in Chandan Nagar and is a ragpicker Police said Sangeeta’s 13-year-old daughter was staying at her sister-in-law Janabai Jagdane’s residence at Khulewadi in Lohegaon for the past two years.

Umesh,Janabai and Mangal whisked away the girl in a vehicle to Alandi on Friday and forcibly got her married to Umesh. Sangeeta came to know about it from her friend on Sunday. Sangeeta visited her daughter to learn that it was true.

Umesh,already married,has been staying alone for the past few years.

Police booked the three under section 366 (compelling woman to marry and kidnapping) of the IPC and Child Marriage (Restraint) Act,1929.

Sangeeta told police she lost her husband five years ago and was barely able to make both ends meet.

Therefore,Sangeeta had sent her daughter to her sister-in-law’s place.
