1100 appointments daily to speed up issuance of passports

The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday announced that they have taken steps to improve the passport services for citizens of Pune and adjoining districts falling under the jurisdiction of RPO,Pune.

The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday announced that they have taken steps to improve the passport services for citizens of Pune and adjoining districts falling under the jurisdiction of RPO,Pune. The ministry has now made 1,100 appointments available to citizens on a daily basis.

“The police department have been able to clear the pendency of passport applications,which witnessed 133 per cent increase” said Mukesh Pardeshi,Joint Secretary,Passport Seva Project (PSP) and Chief Passport Officer.

The other facilities available include an inquiry desk at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) to help applicants with general queries regarding passport,special multi-lingual signage installed at the PSK cautioning applicants to

avoid touts and agents among others.

As part of the MEA’s e-governance initiatives,PSP has transformed the passport issuance system across the country to a network of 77 PSKs.

Increasing their working hours,the PSK officials are available to citizens between 9:30 am and 4:15 pm everyday besides a 24X7 call centre support in 17 languages. Citizens can now leave the PSK with certainty on the status of their application.
